Peter's faith

 This had to be the faith of Peter: "And you, once converted, confirm your brothers." It was necessary that Peter, before confirming others in faith, suffered the humiliation of his denials, he, who had declared quite frankly to be willing to follow Jesus to death. After this painful experience, he will be the impregnable foundation of the whole Church. He can reassure his brothers telling them to never doubt the Lord's forgiveness, because they will never be as guilty as he who was forgiven.

"Although everyone is scandalized, I will not!". It would have been a miracle to see the head of the apostles escape the general disaster, but Jesus will give him a lifetime to renounce his betrayal, and yet, He reserves Peter the privilege to raise his brothers, he who has fallen the lowest of all.

Long after his death, as long as the Church remains, Peter will confirm the christians, who will continue to turn towards him, sure to find unfailing faith, and will continue to learn from the example of his conversion, confident that this was the result of the prayer of Jesus: "Peter, I have prayed for you, so that your faith will not falter"



   Així havia de ser la fe de Pere : "I tu, una vegada convertit, confirma als teus germans". Va fer falta que Pere, per confirmar als altres en la fe, abans passés per l'humiliació de les seves negacions, ell, que amb tota sinceritat havia manifestat estar disposat a seguir a Jesús fins a la mort. Després d'aquesta dolorosa experiència, ell serà el fonament inexpugnable de tota l'Església. Ell podrà tranquil·litzar als seus germans dient-los que  mai dubtin del perdó del Senyor, ja que mai seran tan culpables com ell, que va ser perdonat.

"Encara que tots s'escandalitzin, jo no!". Hauria estat un miracle veure el Cap dels apòstols escapar del desastre general, però Jesús li donarà tota una vida per renegar de la seva traïció, i en canvi, li reserva el privilegi a ell, a ell que ha caigut més avall que cap altre, d'aixecar als seus germans.

Molt després de la seva mort, mentre duri l'Església, Pere confirmarà als cristians, que es continuaran girant vers ell segurs de trobar-hi una fe indefectible, i continuaran aprenent de l'exemple de la seva conversió, segurs que va ser fruit de la pregària de Jesús:  "Pere, jo he pregat per tu, perquè la teva fe no defalleixi"
