Jesus prayed for him

 The authority of Christ will not be divided, because Jesus  delegated it only to Peter. He chose a man, just a man, a man subject to human foibles: Jesus knows that Peter will succumb during the Passion. On the eve of the day Peter denied him, his Master assures Peter that He prayed for him, so that his faith will not falter; and then He adds: "And you, once converted, confirm your brothers in faith"

Jesus knew that some successors of Peter would be victims of ambition, of greed, and other passions. But historical documents attest that none of them was induced by the disorder of their life to relax any precept of the moral law.

Will the sin of some make us forget the virtue, the science, and the zeal of so many other popes? ¿Will we reproach the Sculptor for dropping a few pieces of hardwood near the statue He is carving, instead of admiring the masterpiece He is creating?



   L'autoritat de Crist no serà dividida, perquè Jesús la va delegar només a Pere. Va escollir un home, a un sol home, a un home subjecte a les flaqueses humanes: Jesús sap que Pere sucumbirà durant la Passió. En la vigília del dia en que el va negar, el Mestre li assegura que  ha demanat per ell , perquè no defalleixi la seva fe, i després afegeix: "I tu, una vegada convertit, confirma als teus germans en la fe"

Jesús sabia que alguns successors de Pere serien víctimes de l'ambició, de la cobdícia, i d'altres passions. Però els documents històrics testifiquen que cap d'ells va ser induït pels desordres de la seva vida a relaxar cap precepte de la llei moral.

¿ Ens faran oblidar, les faltes d'alguns, tota la virtut, la ciència, i el zel de tants altres pontífexs? ¿ Recriminarem a l'escultor, que deixi caure fragments de fusta preciosa prop de l'estàtua que talla, en comptes d'admirar l'obra mestra que està creant ?
