The mountain trail

 A good walker prefers mountain paths to easy roads. He discovers the shortcut that shortens the distance, following along the creek, enjoying its freshness, across the fields and away from the crowd and dust. He has the horizon in front of him, he can see the sky, and admire the trees, pick a flower, listen to the birds sing. He has at his disposal the wonderful work of God. The mountain trail speaks of the boldness and difficulties of those who first opened the way. Sometimes the path is washed away out of sight and it must be rediscovered as it gets  closer to the top. A path is never folllowed, you must take it and keep your eyes wide open, and always watch your step. This is  - Jesus said - the narrow way that leads to life. Because the Saviour doesn't want his disciples do be mere followers, but tracers of paths, not conformists, but personalities. So he calls them off the monotonous and  comfortable roads  following the crowd, and  instead, He attracts them so they follow him through difficult and narrow paths that lead to the highest peaks.



  El bon caminant prefereix el sender a la carretera fàcil. Descobreix la drecera que escurça la distància, bordeja el rierol gaudint de la seva frescor, creua els prats lluny de la multitud i la pols, té l'horitzó al seu davant, pot contemplar el cel, admirar els arbres, collir una flor i escoltar el cant dels ocells. Té a la seva disposició l'obra magnífica de Déu. El sender de muntanya ens parla de les audàcies i dificultats dels primers que s'hi van obrir pas. A vegades s'esborra el seu traçat i cal retrobar-lo ja prop del cim. Un sender no es segueix, es pren, i cal tenir els ulls ben oberts, vigilar on es posa el peu. Així és - deia Jesús - el camí estret que condueix a la vida.  Perquè el Salvador no vol per deixebles a simples seguidors, sinó a traçadors de camins, no vol conformistes, sinó personalitats. Per això els crida fora de la carretera còmoda i monòtona que segueix la multitud, per atreure'ls a seguir-lo pel sender estret i difícil que condueix als cims més alts.
