We need a Mediator

 It can be said, we do not penetrate the heart of the Christian doctrine until the day that we understand the disastrous nature of sin; I mean that one that drives God out of a soul. (...) 

The ruin of a human work can be repaired; the destruction of a divine work can not be repaired. However, when the object of our sin is God, not his life, but his mind, his love, his person - that is, precisely, what sin is - our human resources are unable to repair an infinite offense. (...);

Sin operates, therefore, a break, an irremediable split between God and humanity. God, however, accepts to forgive our rebellion, but there is the need of the intervention of a mediator, capable, on behalf of both parties, to negotiate reconciliation. "There is only one God - Paul writes - and there is only one mediator between God and men, Jesus Christ, who gives himself as ransom for all." (...);

On the night in which the Incarnate Word came to dwell among us, angels announced, very timely, the long-awaited reconciliation: "Glory to God and peace on earth!" God no longer has to reject humanity, there is a man among from whom He will receive an infinite praise.

 Es pot afirmar, nosaltres no penetrarem el cor de la doctrina cristina fins el dia en que haguem comprès el caràcter desastrós del pecat, em refereixo a aquell que foragita a Déu d'una ànima.(...)

La ruïna d'una obra humana es pot reparar; la destrucció d'una obra divina és irreparable. Això no obstant, quan l'objecte de la nostra falta és Déu, no pas la seva vida, sinó el seu pensament, el seu amor, la seva persona - en això consisteix precisament el pecat - els nostres mitjans humans són incapaços de reparar una ofensa que és infinita.(...)

El pecat opera, doncs, una ruptura, un escisió irremeiable entre Déu i la humanitat. Déu, però, accepta perdonar la nostra rebel·lia, però ens cal la intervenció d'un Mediador capaç, en nom de les dues parts, de negociar la reconciliació.  "Només hi ha un Déu -  escriu Sant Pau -  i només hi ha un mediador entre Déu i els homes, Jesucrist, que s'ha s'ha donat en rescat per a tots".(...)

En la nit en la que el Verb encarnat va venir a habitar entre nosaltres, els àngels van anunciar ben encertadament aquesta reconciliació tant esperada: " Glòria a Déu! Pau a la terra!" Déu ja no ha de rebutjar la humanitat, hi ha un home entre nosaltres del qual rebrà una lloança infinita.
