The Altar

 The piece on top of the altar, during the first centuries, was often a slab placed in the tomb of a martyr. Where could be held with more dignity the memorial of the death of the Savior than on the grave of the faithful who died for Christ? (...) 

The altar, indeed, is the place where Jesus extends to us his immolation. Our Lord is the living Altar from where, St. Paul writes, " our Host of praise rises towards God." Our stone altar is the symbol of this true altar; It has been consecrated, anointed, ie Christianized; It represents the Christ.

L'altar, en efecte, és el lloc on Jesucrist perllonga per nosaltres la seva immolació. Nostre Senyor és l'altar vivent d'on, escriu Sant Pau, "s'eleva vers Déu la nostra Òstia de lloança." El nostre altar de pedra és el símbol d'aquest altar veritable; ha estat consagrat, ungit, és a dir cristianitzat; representa el Crist.
