The camel and the needle

English "How difficult it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich to enter the kingdom of heaven!" said Jesus to the rich young man who refused the his invitation to follow him once he had abandoned his wealth, which was huge.

To the surprise of his listeners, Jesus does not retract, but rather gazes them, opening a door of hope "It is impossible to the rich, but to God all things are possible." That is, God can make the miracle by changing their hearts and make them part with money.

There is no dividing line number from which one should be considered poor or rich (...) but the touchstone that reveals the Christian is the detachment of wealth. Our Lord makes it an absolute condition. When a man is attached to money – both, if he owns it, and even if not owning it, he is greedy about it - What place will the invisible God who should be praised and glorified occupy in his life? His thoughts are not separated from the earth, God's name is pronounced, perhaps it is, but He isn’t to him the loving Father. How is love to others going to grow in a heart that can not be deprived of anything? Why speak of fraternity about someone that raises a sealed department between what is his and what's not, about someone who only levaes what is “his” with meanness, forced, or sometimes by force?

The granary of the birds of the sky

English With the intention to inspire a boundless confidence in God's providence, Jesus said to his audience:

"The birds of the air, they neither sow nor reap, they neither harvest nor pile up in their attics. They don’t have cellars with doors that can be closed carefully. However, they do not die of hunger or thirst, as our heavenly Father supplies them food "(...)

Neither does the Master say: "Cross your arms, my friends, and wait for roasted quails to settle on your table "

The birds only hide their head under the wings to sleep, the rest of the time they are not with their legs crossed. They can’t  sow or reap, but look at them, they are always on the lookout for their booty. "(...)

- Owners! do not put your trust in your barns, for they can be set on fire or thieves can steal them. Also, Do you want to tell me how would you fill them up if God did not grow your crops?

... And as for you, poor people, you do not have cellars or barns - like the birds of the sky – so, do not mourn saying: "What will we eat, what will we drink?". Leave this concern to pagans! You can not ignore that your Father knows that you need to eat and drink: So, even if you are busy earning your livelihood, do it without concern, as birds do...

Two sparrows five cents

English Don’t you hear in the market “two sparrows for the price of five!”

And the Savior kept explaining :

"Well, not even one of these birds is forgotten by God!"

"Two birds for five cents, five for ten cents!" Dictators do the same calculation in relation to men. Human life doesn’t matter much for them. Thousands of lives are consumed in the fire of war, and tomorrow, if their pride dictates it, millions of people will be annihilated under the horrifying effects of the atomic bomb. A few million more or less is ignored by his passion for power. Meanwhile, hundreds are deported to death camps and entire populations are displaced from one country to another. The piece of land inherited from their ancestors, the family house, the family itself... nothing has any value in totalitarian regimes.

¡A man! This creature, dear parents, that God has made sprout of your union, this child of whom a mother took care with the utmost delicacy in the early years, this boy whose consciousness you have formed and to whom you have given a job, and who you are so proud of... ¿ what will they make of him, those false reformers of mankind? Cannon fodder, or if he protests, he will end up rotting in the ossuary of a concentration camp!

"Two men for the price of five cents!. Well, not even that!.

The Gospel outdoors

English The Lord often preached in the open air.

He didn’t reserve his doctrine to only a small circle of initiates as any school teacher would do. His Gospel is addressed and is accessible to men of all times and all conditions, because the truth it contains is beyond all philosophies: it is in line with human nature, which is the same everywhere. Sometimes near Lake Tiberias, sometimes on the slope of a small hill, and often on the roads and on the fields. (....)

Jesus is not the teacher who develops his thesis: his ideas sprouted from his heart, his language was spontaneous and direct. He uses comparisons drawn from everyday life; more than once he takes them from the magnificiency that his listeners witness while he speaks.

Passing a flock of sparrows He says: "Look at the birds of the sky!" and invites them to lean on the lilies that clarify the meadow where they meet: "look!"

The Lord liked to compose short stories called parables but He never used fables. Why? Probably because the fable attributes to plants and animals feelings and concerns of the people, which is obviously artificial. Jesus remains faithful to nature in order to extract from it examples people can imitate for their own good

Total fidelity

English For the honor of your home and because of the good, continue, despite your faults, to teach others, without rest, the duty to which you have not been faithful. That’s right, if you can not put yourselves as an example, you dont’ need to talk about your lifes, but simply speak to those whom you still have some authority, what is their duty. Oh! pronouncing these advising words you will feel that your lips are not worthy and shame will oppress your heart, causing such pain and confusion that you will have you vividly experience the irregularity of your conduct, and will drive you to review it promptly. Do not aggravate your guilt despising the moral law with the useless hope to recover your lost innocence.

Whoever deliberately settles in the mistake while giving lessons of virtue to others, that one with all certitude is nothing more than a comedian, and sooner or later, life itself will expose him.

The law of liberty

English We will never value enough how the Gospel respects our freedom. Certainly, Jesus asks us to respond to his call, because our happiness is at stake, as well as the glory of his Father, but the last word is of our own choice. He invites, but does not force anything (...)

Jesus did not deny that the law put us in a closer dependence of God: It must be so,  if we love Him, if we truly want to realize our vocation of men. In fact, Jesus compares the Gospel with a yoke. "Take my yoke and receive my teaching," but He adds, "you will find rest, for my yoke feats anybody’s  measure and my burden is light." A yoke that releases? Doesn’t it seem a contradiction? It is not, it is here that you can guess the mystery of grace. Jesus does not need to impose, He draws us to him. First of all He Asks his disciples to have faith, that is, the total gift of themselves in response to his love. Thus, from the moment we believe in Him. his law is no longer a constraint coming from outside. His law becomes our law. There is unanimity among his word and the best of ourselves. Our desires conform to his orders. What he wants, we want it too. We obey because we love!

The perfect law

English If we loved God and men with a sincere heart, we would never be happy enough, we would never think to have done enough to serve them. Don’t you discover here the secret of perfection? The one who loves has the need to always prove it, more and better. Thus, the faithful Christian progresses steadily toward holiness, without ever thinking to have achieved it, since he knows he is supposed to improve his life, indefinitely.

The law of love, that's the evangelical law: The perfect law already seen throgh shadows by the prophets and which Jesus came to record, not on tablets of stone but in our hearts of flesh.

Not abolished, but perfected

English Jesus did not come to abolish but to perfect. He did not make reset of the past. Nor did He reject truths, though imperfect and provisional that men of earlier times had come to recognize, or virtues that they had come to practice. The same that God had inspired them in the course of centuries, Jesus added to his teaching. In this sense, Jesus doesn’t innovate: his Gospel connects with the long effort of men running towards the truth. But revealing it fully, He will transform the thoughts and aspirations of the people (...)

Let us value, then, the generous audacity of men who strive to complete what our ancestors began, and our generation, without any doubt, will not finish either.

The Master of all holiness

English That Jesus gave the world the spectacle of a holiness never surpassed or equaled, is of an indisputable evidence. Not only He reached it, but He himself marked the peak of human consciousness. Jesus is not only the example to follow: He is the master of all holiness (...) He was not content to embody in his live the highest human ideal, his ambition was to teach us how to make it ours, and here it is where  his mastery truly manifests itself .

Human nature

English If human nature was powerless to fulfill the duty, we would be victims of an ominous determinism: We would no longer be children, but slaves condemned to an undeserved punishment. And if nature was rebellious, it could only lead us to be conscious and freely, culprits! But this is not true, we know that we can love God and  want what is good!
