The real yeast

 It is through the most hidden christians, the most humble, the weakest, that Jesus wants to spread his Gospel among men. What will spread christianity in environments where it has not yet arrived, will be the experience shown by your truly christian lives, a kind religion, a sweet serenity, a tireless and discreet charity. The real yeast that will raise the moral level of society, will be the obscure, modest and calm virtue of thousands of courageous faithful in all christian churches, who oppose the dignity of their lives to the easing of customs as well as the righteousness of their judgment to the bizarre errors that corrupt the public. The ferment that breaks the insipidity of indifferent crowds is the prayer of ignored christians, is the sacrifice of those who suffer in silence near the cross of our Saviour; also your walks after receiving the communion, like living chalices, on the streets and squares, in the bank or in the market, in the office or at home. Wherever your daily occupations will take you, Jesus Christ will penetrate with you with his Spirit and his Virtue. Your life transformed by the Gospel and the Eucharist is the hidden force that will christianize the world.

  És per mitjà dels cristians més amagats, els més humils, els més febles, que Jesús vol escampar el seu Evangeli entre els homes. Allò que contagiarà el cristianisme en els ambients on encara no ha arribat, serà l'experiència que mostrin les vostres vides sincerament cristianes: una religió amable, una dolça serenitat, una caritat discreta alhora que infatigable. El vertader llevat que aixeca el nivell moral de la societat, és la virtud modesta, tranquil·la, obscura i coratjosa dels milers de fidels que, en totes les parròquies cristianes, contraposen la dignitat de la seva vida al relaxament de les costums, i la rectitud del seu judici als esbojarrats errors que perverteixen l'opinió pública. El ferment  que trenca la insipidesa  de les multituds indiferents és la la pregària dels cristians ignorats; és el sacrifici dels cristians que sofreixen en silenci prop de la creu del nostre Salvador; Són els vostres passejos després de rebre la comunió, com calzes vivents,  pels carrers i per les places, al banc o al mercat, a l'oficina o a la vostra llar. Allà on les vostres ocupacions quotidianes us portin, Jesucrist hi penetrarà amb vosaltres; hi fareu entrar el seu esperit i la seva virtud. La vostra vida transformada per l'Evangeli i per l'Eucaristia és la força amagada que cristianitza el món.
