A secret between him and us

If you do good to show it to people, it will be you who they will see and even congratulate. If  you act towards God,  instead, without caring so much about men, they will see God through you. The fruits of your inner life belong to everyone, but keep hidden the work of the sap that made them appear and the conditions under which they have matured. If you dig up the seed, it will wither and die. Men can see and grow with what God has done for us; but what we do for God and what God does within us, no one should know. It is a secret between him and us. Silence is the chastity of souls.

  Si feu el bé per mostrar-lo als homes, serà a vosaltres a qui veuran i fins potser us felicitaran. Si, en canvi, obreu per Déu, sense fixar-vos en els homes, aquests veuran Déu a través vostre. Els fruits de la vostra vida interior pertanyen a tots, però manteniu ocult el treball de la saba que els ha fet aparèixer i les condicions en que han madurat. Si es desenterra la llavor, aquesta es panseix i mor. Els homes poden veure i edificar-se amb el que Déu ha fet de nosaltres; però el que nosaltres fem per Déu i el que Déu fa dins nostre, ningú ho ha de saber. És un secret entre Ell i nosaltres. El silenci és la castedat de les ànimes.
