Soul deprived of light

English Christians to whom the Lord does not prevent from the torments of darkness should not think they had lost faith. Perhaps their faith was never stronger or more effective than in these terrible moments. Believing is not seeing. The cornerstone of faith lies rather in these painful crises when you continue saying yes when you do not see. Perhaps we never love God as much as when our poor soul deprived of light, devoid of joy, and taken from a vertigo that is similar to that physiscal starvation produces, it can not even feel the echo of his misery. However, rather than weakened, our faith is strengthened while passing through the fiery crucible of uncertainty : that is when it captures us without us even knowing it, penetrating us and becoming inseparable from our soul

Is there anything we feel more our possession than what we have achieved based on our own effort, struggle, and sacrifice, and therefore we can freely distribute to others?
